While on this island, the crew of the ship met with a tribe of Mayan Indians. ![]() The ship never reached its destination but instead went too far and reached an island along the southeastern coast of Mexico. The journey begins on the coast of Spain and took many months. He persuades Julian to go by telling him that he could preach and hopefully spread Christianity to the Indians. Don Luis is a businessman who inherited an island in the Caribbean and wants to go there because he heard there was a lot of gold to be mined. He lives in a small village in Spain and is asked by his mother’s employer, Don Luis Arroyo to go on a journey to an island. The main character is Julian Escobar and he is a 16 year old seminary student who wants to become a minister. This is an interesting book because even though it is fiction, it gives the reader insight into the lives, history, and geography of the Mayans and of Spaniards in the late 1400’s to early 1500’s. “The Captive,”is the first of three books called the “Seven Serpents Trilogy” by Scott O'dell. ![]() ![]() He meets the right people everything he does leads him on towards the big discovery in the end. Īnother problem is that everything is so damn convenient, he finds the painting and after that everything just falls into place. Peter meets Amanda and they fall in love, he discovers that she is a rich heiress (No way, I didn’t see that coming) she dies and he finds a watercolor painting that looks just like Amanda in England and he just have to find out who painted it and the identity of the woman. The problem was that the characters were very flat and honestly boring. Especially the ending when Peter found out that his Amanda was related to B/B Alas, this book was like a pale version of possession. Byatt and that really made me want to read this book. ![]() I saw on Goodreads that this book was compared to Possession by A.S. ![]() |
